Audit Support
PERMITAX Corporation stands behind its work and, equally important, its clients during fuel tax audits with the various States/Provinces. It is our job to ensure that our clients receive minimum, and to the best of our ability, no assessments as a result of fuel tax audits.
The fuel tax returns that we file are only as good as the information that is provided to us by our clients. That is why we provide our clients with feedback, highlighting any problems with the information provided to us. For example, we provide our clients with information that highlights areas for potential audit problems which, if not remedied, could result in larger than necessary audit assessments.
Furthermore, to ensure accuracy, when entering mileage data, we have developed within our programs methods of isolating data entry error. An exception analysis is then conducted on your data to determine any potential problems.
The same type of tests are conducted by the various departments of revenue when they conduct audits. Discrepancies are then discussed with the client to determine if any data, whether it be missing mileage or fuel, has not been submitted or overlooked.
Our exceptions reporting system analyzes your data on a continual basis highlighting problems such as:
- Any units that fall outside specified MPG/KPL parameters - this could indicate missing fuel receipts or mileage information
- Any units that travel over a specified number of miles in any one jurisdiction
- Duplicate fuel receipts
- Any units that have recorded state/provincial fuel purchases but no mileage for the same jurisdiction
- Any units that change recording/measuring method ie. kms to miles, totals to logs, etc.
- Any units that have had odometers restarted during the fuel tax reporting period
These pre-audit processes ensure that fuel tax reporting is completed as accurately as possible and prevents auditors from making assessments based on incomplete or unreasonably reported data.
PERMITAX has represented its clients during many IFTA fuel tax and mileage tax audits. All audits are conducted upon our premises. We have an excellent reputation and rapport with the State/Provincial tax departments, many of which have recognized the efforts that we have taken to ensure that we are reporting accurate information.
